Benchmarking Home Energy Savings from Energy-Efficient Lighting
Savings claims from compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) are usually based only on reduced wattage from incandescent light bulbs. Since CFLs produce less heat than conventional incandescent bulbs, your heating system needs to make up this heat loss, reducing the total energy savings during the heating season. This research evaluated the overall energy impact of these light bulbs on total house energy consumption at the Canadian Centre for Housing Technology (CCHT).
