Special Studies on 1996 Census Data: Housing Conditions of Rural Households
According to the 1996 census data, there are 1.6 million Canadian households in rural areas, an increase of 5% over 1991. A total of 15% of rural households are in core housing need with the lowest percentage being in Alberta and the highest in the Northwest Territories.
