Literature Review of Socio-Economic Trends Affecting Consumers and Housing Markets
This study reviews research on the impact of socio-economic trends on consumers and housing markets. A synthesis of the literature identifies eight priority research questions that contribute to a national housing research agenda. Twelve theme areas are identified, such as demographic changes, cost of housing and smart growth. The eight priority research questions include: the effect of Aboriginal population growth on housing, the nature and extent of discrimination on housing, and the effects of the polarization of the labour force (high and low end jobs). These questions collectively can affect a number of policy issues, often beyond the housing field.
