An International Comparison of Housing Need Indicators in Australia, Canada, England and the United States
This research compares housing need indicators in three countries with those used in Canada. The Canadian measure stands out in its integration of affordability, suitability and adequacy. However, all countries suffer from numerous inherent weaknesses in their data, and some have long time lags in collection. The research includes three recommendations for improvement of Canadian indicators, and urges at least a biennial national survey specifically focused on collecting housing related appropriate data.
