Testing the Adhesion of Air- Barrier Membranes in Wall Assemblies
One of the critical performance characteristics of air-barrier materials used in wall assemblies is long-term adhesion to the substrate — an air-barrier system must be able to resist peak wind-loads, stack-pressure effects and sustained pressurization loads. This document describes a project which evaluated the adhesion performance of air-barrier membrane materials over time and under different conditions, providing a benchmark for membrane-substrate adhesion performance. The membrane systems tested included self-adhesive, torch applied and liquid membrane. Each system was tested with four different substrates under three extreme environmental conditions.
