West Coast Green Roof Performance at BCIT's Green Roof Research Facility

Green roofs are vegetated roof covers with many environmental benefits. To investigate the performance and practical application of extensive green roof systems, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) constructed a dedicated field test site consisting of two green roof sections with different growth medium thicknesses and different plant species. This paper documents the effectiveness of these green roof systems compared to a non-green roof with respect to stormwater run-off management and thermal performance.
